3. GIVE IT TIME TO GROW
I once heard that the average overnight success takes about ten years of work. While I am confident you should not have to spend anywhere near ten years developing your online affiliate marketing business, I also know that it will take some time for your results to be seen (especially if you are just starting out). Be realistic about your timeline. Understand that it takes time for the search engines to even recognize that your site is online and it takes a little while longer for all the quality back links that you are building to be recognized, as well.
4. DEVELOP REALISTIC AND UNREALISTIC GOALS
I think that people should develop realistic and unrealistic goals. In my opinion, our realistic goals remind us what we need to do day-to-day, while our unrealistic goals keep us focused on our dreams. Look, chances are when starting out, you will not make the "six figures in thirty days" that so many people promise. But, I think it is entirely realistic to aim to make $500 or $1000 in one month. That's a realistic goal that will take a few hours every day for that first month. (And to me, that is a great start towards online marketing success.) But I absolutely support you in hanging on to that goal that you will make six figures in a month's time! Don't abandon your dreams! Developing an online business is about assisting you in making your dreams come true.
5. DON'T GIVE UP
The most important part of anything worth doing in life is for you to not give up. Develop a plan and stick to it, making the necessary adjustments along the way. If you aim to make $500 in your first month and you only make half of that, you are already well on your way to increasing that number in the months ahead. (And you have already done better than 98% of the people who have tried to make money online.) The reality is that it takes three to six months to build an online business that brings in real money. Stay the course and outlast your competition.
If you use these five tips as the foundation on which to build your internet business, you shouldn't be surprised if you begin to see your work bring in money. And, chances are, the longer you stay in the game and stick with your plan, the more money you will see through affiliate marketing.

These new kids on the block are referred to as "newbies." Newbies often have big dreams of financial success but, just as often, make the same mistakes that serve as obstacles in their path of achieving these dreams.
But there are some pretty common mistakes that newbies can avoid when establishing themselves as internet marketers. And these mistakes are highlighted below:
1. Don't give up too soon Newbies splash into the world of internet marketing, spend the next ten days developing their websites, become incredibly active forum users hoping to drive traffic back to their websites...and then disappear entirely. The hard truth about internet marketing is that it will take longer than ten days for you to see some financial rewards. The other hard truth is that it may take up to six months to a year before your first website becomes a hit. The good news? After you have established your first site, you get to replicate the results much more quickly the second and third time out of the gate. Don't give you too soon before you can see the rewards of your hard work.
2. Don't spam forums Popular internet marketing forums are filled with men and women who have honed their crafts. I actually don't often take part in the conversation on forums for fear that I don't have much to add to a thread. Newbies, however, are not as economical with their knowledge and often point people to links that even have less value. Additionally, develop a signature link that is specific to you.
3. Increase your action ratio Often times, newbies get lost in a process that I call information saturation. They spend their hours online reading and reading and reading, rather than doing. Or they find a product and think they will spend time promoting it, only to be distracted by the next new shiny object in front of them. I suggest that all newbies decrease their research time and increase the amount of time they spend implementing their business plan and online presence. Please don't misunderstand me: Research is necessary, good, and important. But at some point, you will need to act!
4. Pay attention to your reputation In short, don't be the guy that everyone hates. Learn how to develop relationships with those who can help you and, in return, learn how you can teach others and help others out. Nobody likes to help that guy they hate.
5. Cloak your affiliate links I didn't understand what this meant when I first started out trying to make money online and I wonder how many affiliate sales I lost. It is absolutely crucial that you learn how to cloak your affiliate links when promoting a product.
I will be honest. The reason that I am so blunt with these tips isn't because I despise newbies--it's because I used to be one of them! It is important for us to share what we have learned to make the path just a little bit easier for those who follow us.
